Nappy Rash
A nappy rash is a rash that occurs on your baby’s skin underneath your baby’s nappy. It appears as a reddened area with skin that peels and flakes off easily. If the nappy rash is not properly cared for, then the skin may become infected by bacterial or fungal overgrowth, especially in the folds of your baby’s skin. Nappy rashes generally occur in babies around eight months or older and are most commonly caused by not changing your baby’s nappy often enough. The dampness on the skin from the nappy causes the skin to become itchy and irritated. Nappy rashes are not usually serious and there are seldom complications. The rash disappears quickly if you allow the skin to dry and air for a while, without a nappy on. Please consult your healthcare practitioner if your symptoms have not subsided within four days.
