Description

Linctagon Capsules contains the natural active ingredient Pelargonium sidoides, with additional ingredients Quercetin and Bromelain that assist in dealing with inflammation and congestion experienced during respiratory tract infections. It contains added Zinc for immune support.  Linctagon Capsules is safe to use for diabetics.

What does the product contain?

Pelargonium
For some years already, Pelargonium extract has proven to be effective against infections of the airways and ear-nose-throat region.  This herbal remedy originates from South Africa and was introduced to Europe in 1807 by C.H Stevens under the name “Umckaloabo” – a Zulu word meaning “severe cough”, and used specifically for tuberculosis.

Nowadays Pelargonium is used to for acute and chronic infections of the respiratory tract.  Numerous studies have been conducted on the efficacy and safety of Pelargonium in the treatment of common colds, upper- & lower respiratory tract infections, tonsillitis and ear infections.  Studies indicated that Pelargonium sidoides shortens the duration of the illness and reduces the severity of symptoms.

Quercetin
Quercetin is a bioflavonoid – a type of plant-pigment found in almost all herbs and plant-foods.  It is especially abundant in black tea, blue-green algae, broccoli, onions, red apples and red wine.  Quercetin is consistently the most active of all flavonoids in experimental studies, and many medicinal plants owe much of their activity to their high levels of quercetin.  Quercetin is an antioxidant and it is found that it can help to prevent abnormal cell-growth, by blocking destructive structural changes in cells.  It also plays an important role in reducing allergic reactions by inhibiting the synthesis of allergy-causing enzymes.

Bromelain
Bromelain is a sulfur-containing, proteolytic (protein-digesting) enzyme found in the stem and fruit of the pineapple plant.  Bromelain can successfully be used for sinus inflammation.  It decreases the rate at which antibiotics – used to treat sinus infection – are metabolized & excreted into the urine and this enhances their effectiveness in the treatment. Bromelain can also prevent sinusitis from progressing into bronchitis.  It is used to suppress coughing, decrease bronchial secretions and increase lung function in patients suffering from upper respiratory tract infections.  It also reduces the viscosity of sputum – thus having beneficial effects in respiratory tract infections.  Patients with chronic bronchitis showed an increase in lung-function & -capacity after treatment with Bromelain.

Zinc
Zinc is necessary for the functioning of more than 300 different enzymes and plays a vital role in an enormous number of biological processes. Zinc is a cofactor for the antioxidant enzyme superoxide dismutase (SOD) and is in a number of enzymatic reactions involved in carbohydrate and protein metabolism.  Its immune-enhancing activities include regulation of T lymphocytes, CD4, natural killer cells, and interleukin II. In addition, zinc has been claimed to possess antiviral activity.
